BEES

Welcome

Welcome to the Alameda County Beekeeping Association’s (ACBA) official website.

Since 1916, we’ve been serving beekeepers and apiculture in Alameda County, California.

Today, the ACBA represents beekeepers and beekeeping interestes for nearly 1.5 million people from Hills of Livermore to the shores of Oakland, North to Albany and south to Fremont. ACBA also serves as an educational institution for beekeeping and urban and rural ecology.

Updated the ACBA Officers Lists

In our latest journey through the current ACBA archives, we’ve decided to train our focus onto exploring the plethora of enthusiastic, vibrant, and highly motivated club members from the past. This last week we combed through our limited archive of membership rosters and read through our selection of newsletters (now online) to try and retrieve as many past volunteer names as possible.  While perhaps we got in too deep with the “any volunteer” criteria, we were quite successful establishing the list of officers for each year and we’re pleased that we got back as far as 1967! That’s ..twelve minus sixty-seven… forty-five… almost 50 years of beekeeping history!

(Of course with the help of Mr. Richard Marple and his notes, we’re actually able to dig back to 1916 when Cary W. Hartman founded the organization… but we’ll celebrate our small archival victory in conjunction with his.)

HOWEVER, we are still missing a few years in between, some as recent as 2008. If you have any information about individuals who volunteered with the club, wether it be the president, officers, committee members, committee chair persons, or plain old volunteers who brought the coffee every week, please pass it along by contacting us, or by commenting on the ACBA Officer Article-year it pertains to.

Thanks for helping!
